Detailed Itinerary – 5 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Wildlife 

Day 1: Visit Akagera National Game Park for big 5-game tour

Meet and greet your driver guide at the pickup point or around the hotel area in Kigali city. After, you will set off for a short Kigali city tour which will run for about 2 hours and you settle for lunch.

After touring Kigali city, drive off to Akagera National Park where you will have a special moment searching for savanna game species. A road trip to Akagera National Park will take about 2 and a half hours. This will be go for your safari using our 4×4 safari vehicle with pop-roof.

Akagera Game Park, a 1122 sq.km protected area hosts a diversity of wildlife. The park’s numerous wild animals to see include warthogs, buffaloes, waterbucks, Maasai giraffes, elands, impalas, zebras, lions, leopards, birds, and more.

When you get to Akagera National Park, the main thing will be check-in and relaxation at the lodge.

Day 2: Game drive, boat tour- Akagera N/P

Explore Akagera National Park’s diverse animal species on a guided game safari in the morning. Navigate through its savannas in a 4×4 safari vehicle, with a guide, and enjoy the sights of buffaloes, elephants, leopards, antelopes, birds, and more.

The afternoon boat tour begins at 2:00 pm, lasting for 2-3 hours on Lake Ihema. This is one location that is rich in aquatic life, such as hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds, and more.

Day 3: Akagera-Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Exit Akagera National Park for Volcanoes National Park Rwanda, a journey estimated to take about 6 hours. Volcanoes National Park is where Rwanda gorillas live and 12 habituated gorilla families all exist here including Susa A, Susa B, Umubano, Sabyinyo, Hirwa, Bwenge, Ugenda, Agashya, Amahoro, and more.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

Breakfast served to you in the morning, after, assemble at the Kinigi offices for a briefing about Rwanda gorilla trekking rules. Report to briefing point with valid gorilla permits for verification and the park official will allocate a park guide to lead you on 2-6 hours.

Your gorilla trek includes a special one hour of getting up close and personal with the mountain gorilla group and exploring more about the daily behaviors of these large apes. In the afternoon, you have two options; visit Iby’Iwacu cultural village for a cultural tour or relax at the lodge.
